The United States has a lot of national holidays. Thanksgiving and Independence Day are very important in the American culture. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. This holiday is celebrated to give thanks for the blessing of the previous year. Americans celebrate this day with friends or family, and they usually eat turkey. The day after thanksgiving is called “Black Friday”. On Black Friday the Christmas shopping officially starts.

Important and famous people
Important and famous people of the USA varies from all different kinds of importance, from movie stars to music stars and politicians to astronauts. To list all the important and famous people of the USA will take up about twenty pages, so for now it will only consist of presidents and a few actors, like president Barack Obama, President George W. Bush, president George Washington, president Thomas Jefferson, Morgan Freeman, Matthew McConaughey and Will Smith.

Music, art and literature
Many music genres were founded in the The United States, for example jazz, pop and house. Famous writers are A.O.F. Scott Fitzgerald, author of The Great Gatsby, Tennesee Williams, who wrote A Streetcar Named Desire and Edgar Allen Poe. A famous artist is Andy Warhol, who is well known for his pictures of Campbell’s Soup.

Usually Americans like to eat fast food (for example Mc Donald’s) or food from other cultures like Chinese, Japanese, Mexican or Italian. Take away meals are popular. It’s interesting to know that the food in these kind of restaurants is cheaper in America than in Europe. Typical American sweet foods are pancakes, donuts and chocolate brownies, which are famous all over the world.

Traditional sports
The USA has four national sports, NFL (American Football), MLB (Major League Baseball), NHL (National Hockey League) and NBA (National Basketball Association). All four enjoy wide-ranging domestic media coverage and are considered the preeminent leagues in their respective sports in the world. Sports are particularly associated with education in the USA, with most high schools and universities having organized sports. College sports competitions play an important role in the American sporting culture, and college football and basketball are just as popular as professional sports in some parts of the country.
